Breast Enlargement The facts about Breast Enlargement in Detroit
WHAT: Breast enlargement, also known as breast augmentation, is a procedure that utilizes silicone or saline implants to enhance the size and shape of the breasts.
WHO: Breast Enlargement is available for all women who are unhappy with their breast size. Candidates under the age of 18 are generally advised to wait until they are fully developed, as additional growth after breast enlargement surgery may result in complications. Also, keep in mind that every body has a limit as to how large the breasts can be increased without chance of complications. At your personal consultation, your plastic surgeon will let you know these limits. The doctor will also usually have you try on different padded bras to help you decide the size that is right for you.
Breast Enlargement can also be performed as a reconstructive procedure for those who have lost breast tissue after undergoing breast cancer treatment. Procedures of this nature may be covered fully or partially by health insurance.
HOW: Breast Enlargement is almost always performed on an outpatient basis and utilizes general anesthesia. A small incision is made either under arm, at the fold of the breast, or under the nipple. The doctor then inserts a saline or silicone implant underneath the breast tissue.
An important decision to make is whether you'd like silicone or saline breast implants. Until a recent decision by the FDA to reapprove silicone implants, breast enlargement was only performed with saline impants in the US. Most women prefer the look and feel of silicone to saline, however, there has been some debate as to the health risks. Saline is simply a solution of water and salt, so if the implant should leak, the liquid can be safely absorbed into the body. No studies have been able to conclusively prove any dangers related to silicone, and after the FDA's reapproval in 2006, most physicians assume them to be safe. Make sure to discuss your implant options with your plastic surgeon at your initial consultation
